Le Petit Travels :: Perth

Le Petit Travels :: Perth

Perth has always been an appealing destination for families with young kiddies. The flight is completely "do-able" (by that, we mean not tooth pullingly long) and the landscape, weather and feel is completely different from the second you step off the plane! Bonus points for their excellent produce! The kiddies are always spoilt for choice in Australia!

Le Petit Society team recently went down under and we have a few pictures and places we enjoyed!

Swan Valley Cuddly Animal Farm (http://www.cuddlyanimalfarm.com)?
Get upclose with a variety of farm animals; bucket feed bunnies and guinea pigs, bottle feed the lambs, calves and piglets, hop onto the train for a ride around the farm; and if those are not enough, there's also a bouncy castle!!
The farm is not huge but there are lots to see (alpacas, llama, ponies, donkeys, emu, lambs, goats, birds? the list goes on), and a visit to the farm can easily take up an entire afternoon. While in the Swan Valley, you could also make a stop at one of the many wineries or cafes (http://www.swanvalley.com.au). On this trip, we visited the Margaret River Chocolate Company which served decent sandwiches and lots of free chocolates for sampling - not necessarily a good choice if you have a kid with a sweet tooth!!

Caversham Wildlife Park (http://www.cavershamwildlife.com.au)
Visited?the Caversham Wildlife Park on our trip to Perth last year and not this time round, but would also highly recommend this for more wildlife exposure. Highlight of the park for us was the kangaroo enclosure where kids feed and pet the kangaroos which are freely roaming.

Beaches and parks
Perth has an abundance of parks, playgrounds and beaches, and that's probably the thing we like most about Perth. Visit King's Park or Cottlesloe Beach, let the kids run free and roll in the grass/sand!

Fremantle Markets (http://fremantlemarkets.com.au)
Another of our favourite is a drive out to Fremantle over the weekend when the markets are held. Here you can pick up some fresh local produce, organic goods and indigenous products. There is also a small Baby Animal Farm at the markets but do check out the schedule online before going as the farm is only available on either Sat or Sun each weekend.

This year, we happened to visit Perth during the Perth Royal Show, a yearly agricultural show featuring competitions, animals a massive fairground and tonnes of rides for kiddies. It has been held for over 100 years and usually happens on the last week of september or first week of October. ?Due to its popularity, parking can be a nightmare so either go early, or use public transport. The show covers a massive area so be prepared for a fair bit of walking! There's so much to see and do for the whole family, we would definitely recommend visiting the Show if you have a chance.

I mean... where else would you get to come up close and personal with snoozy animals, right?
