A Day at the Airport by Richard Scarry

Ever been stumped when you can?t name something at the airport pointed out by your child? This little tale tracing Huckle and Sally?s visit there is a great aid! The charming characters and bright illustrations will explain the sights and proceedings at the airport to any toddler and preschooler.

Babar?s Travels by Jean de Brunhoff

Things don?t go according to plan when Babar the Elephant?s hot air balloon is caught in a storm. Through quick-thinking, determination and help from their friends, Babar and his wife Celeste successfully return home after a series of misadventures. A lovely story for imparting values to your kids, no matter how old they are.

Katie in Scotland by James Mayhew

This story briefly introduces the famous attractions and festivities in Scotland, by recounting the travels of Katie, Jack, their grandma and the Loch Ness Monster. What lacks in storyline is made up for by the illustrations. Overall, this is a feel-good tale which reinforces the values of family and friendship.

A Walk in London by Salvatore Rubbino

If you think it?d be a while more before you?ll visit London with the kids, fret not ? this is a wonderful book to introduce them to the iconic sights of London beforehand. Big Ben, beefeaters, double decker buses ? you will see all of them here! And if you have a child who loves facts and figures, there are lots of those peppered throughout the pages of this book to satisfy that little curious mind. I love that this book is told from a first-person?s perspective and includes the littlest details such as getting caught in the rain and hearing boatmen shout out where the ferry is headed to. You will truly feel as if you are in London itself.

Oh, The Places You?ll Go! By Dr. Seuss

Who can resist including this book, even if it doesn?t relate to vacations in the truest sense? For toddlers and preschoolers, this will seem like any other tale following the protagonist on his adventures. For older school-going children, this story presents a good opportunity to learn about dealing with life situations that don?t go as expected and continuing on their journeys regardless of the difficulties. And of course, at the end of a long day at work or school, the rhythmic narrative is the perfect bedtime story. (Don?t you love how many layers there are to this book?!)

So those are our summer reads, which we hope have been inspirational in many ways to you and your children!

Till our next Nose in A Book piece, ciao!
